Along with his catchy, hazy guitar-rock, Mac DeMarco has become famous for his sense of humor… and for antics, like putting his home address at the end of a track from his mini-LP, “Another One,” and inviting fans to visit him and his girlfriend to their home.

His latest album is called, “This Old Dog” and he’s on tour now. Mac gave us a playlist that’s perfect for your next lasagna-laden dinner party.

Billy Joel – “Scenes From an Italian Restaurant”

Mac DeMarco: The song goes all over the place. It’s really Billy just being as much of a jerk with his songwriting as he can. Billions of lyrics. It changes styles here and there, tempos. It’s just Billy going [in a high-pitched New York accent] “Look what I can do!”

Dean Martin – “That’s Amore”

Dean’s voice comes in like a hurricane, but smooth. It’s the smoothest hurricane you’ve ever been ravaged by. And for anybody that doesn’t know the translation of amore, that’s love. And for me and my family, pizza pie, lasagna, spaghetti — that’s love. True love.

Nino Rota – “The Godfather Waltz”

I really do like film scores. I think in the last couple years I’ve been listening to more lyric-less music. Especially these classic sounding, beautiful, lush songs. I would do it if I could do it. I’m a bit of like a plebeian. I’m not trained very well; I can’t read it. You know I probably have ADHD, can’t stay focused on working on a song I do for very long so this is me dreaming. This is me looking up to things that are thought out and beautiful.

Mac DeMarco – “Dreams from Yesterday”

This would probably [come on] once someone has a meatball-induced heart attack or something. It’s not a fatal heart attack, but it’s a scare. Everybody is getting their coats back on, but it’s kinda quiet now. You go home now. See you again next year. What a disaster. Ciao.
