Episode 72: A Three-Course Thanksgiving

Our humble menu/Dinner Party Download

In honor of our nation’s most gloriously gluttonous feast, we decided to whip up a show of our favorite food stories from the DPD archives. (Fear not, only the choicest leftovers went into our post-Turkey Day menu.) Bon appetit…

Icebreaker: Buck AE Down
Buck AE Down, frontman of rock ‘n’ roll circus The Mutaytor talks up a meaty joke.

Entree: Grilled Cheese Dealing
One of the most popular guys on the NYC food scene prefers to remain anonymous. Brendan meets “Ronnie” on an NYC street corner to satisfy his latest fix: grilled cheese on the run. With an operation that consists of nothing but a cell phone, a bike and an illegal kitchen in an undisclosed location, Ronnie’s “Bread.Butter.Cheese” is redefining distribution channels for the most classic of sandwiches. (Or rather it was — since this story first aired, he’s gone from delivery to legit catering.)

Palate Cleanser: Fire Sauce
Rico heads to Light My Fire — an L.A. store that sells more than a thousand types of hot sauce — and cowers before the spiciest ingredient in the world (30,000 times hotter than a jalapeno). He also learns the antidote, should you ever be insane enough to taste this thing.

Dessert: Cupcake Wars
Brendan tries to recruit an ally in his war against the “upscale cupcake” trend. But Sara Spearin of San Francisco’s Dynamo Donuts defends the rival confection even as she whips up potent ammo: bacon-apple-maple glazed, lemon-thyme, and every-other-tasty-thing-on-Earth doughnuts.
